A PREDISPOSITION: BFA 2

May 2019

For my Bachelor of Fine Arts Senior Show, A Predisposition: BFA 2, my work addressed themes of domesticity as well as the contrast of comfort and unease. I examined grief and personal growth by focusing on abstracted forms and textured surfaces by sewing fabric molds and filling them with a cement and clay mixture.

Sewing was a skill I used to have no patience for but has now become significant in my work as it reflects on the talents of influential people in my life. After tearing the material away, impressions of the fabric texture and stitching marks were left behind, giving the appearance of a welcoming plush form. The objects that should bring joy and softness were rendered hard and unwelcoming to the viewer. Familiar items such as an easy chair and tube TV were distorted and manipulated thus rendering them unfamiliar.
